Curious PC Problem

This one has left myself and many others quite bemused. My pretty new PC, purchased from the good chaps at Overclockers, has started turning immediately off. At first it was just during map changes in one of my favourite games, Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, so tried my usual array of fixes, such as reinstall, but then it started happening to other games. My first thoughts were overheating however my PC is pretty cool, even immediately after the shut downs, plus at the time its map loading... surely not the most tasking of procedures?

My next thought was RAM but it still happens on compatible chips from my old PC so thats not the issue.

Curiously I cant seem to install new drivers so unfortunately I cant try that. They just install as blank drivers :-/

Really hoping its nothing that needs a return to base as I work from my PC and I've a MASSIVE workload over next few months. Cant miss a day :(

Specs are as follow:
Athlon 64 3200+
1Gb Geil DDR400 RAM
GeForce 7600
Asus A8N-E motherboard
160 Gb SATA HDD split across 2 partitions.
(problem occurs on both partitions)

My PSU is a 350W. The unit was advertised as 400W but on the phone I was told it should be okay :-/

I cant use the 450 from my other system as it doesnt have the right power connectors that some of my components use :(

Currently the voltages are:
VCore - 1.41
+3.3 - 3.28
+5.0 - 4.95
+12 - 12.22
According to PC Probe

The unit is an Antec SP-350P

For amps:
+12V1: Min 1.0A - Max 10A
+12V2: Min 1.0A - Max 15A
-12V: Min 0A - Max 0.3A

Not sure it'd cause the machine to turn off but sounds like you have a big problem with your install there, what do you mean by install as "blank"?

After installing appears that there aren't any drivers present plus looking at display properties it would say "Plug and play monitor on." To top it off when I run Delta Force: Black Hawk Down it does checks on PC capabilities and fails them.

ps thanks for quick replies :D

No problem, but I broke the chain :( :p

Your monitor will usually just show up as a Plug and Play monitor but you should have other drivers installed, can you take a screenshot of what you mean? Was your PC self built or did OCUK do the build? Who installed the graphics/chipset drivers etc?

Checking the PC capabilities and failing them could just mean your PC is too modern for the checker, the 64 3200+ would show up as like 2 Ghz (which may seem low for a modern game) and the 7600 is a pretty new card.

Is it possible to download a 3D Mark version, like 06, and post up the score? (include the seperate CPU score)

Cheers, I'll post a SS later. Currently on the default drivers it shows correctly. The PC was built by OCUK and I installed windows & the drivers etc.

I think a fresh install of windows is also needed. I've recently got a student version of XP Pro so i'll have to give that a whirl once i back up the gigs of stuff I have :-/

Spontaneously tunring itself off and not rebooting usually means a duff PSU.. or one that is prolly going to go kaput sooner or later....
i'll maybe get a new PSU tomorrow and test it out.

If you suspect it to be a hardware problem and certainly if a fresh install doesn't help, you should contact OCUK, if they built it, it isn't your responsibility if something is broken and swapping PSUs out could void your warranty.

Unfortunately I cant afford to send my PC away as I study and work from home, putting a high requirement on a working PC. :(

Although I guess technically they owe me a PSU anyway as it was advertised with a 400W, not the 350 I got so i'll maybe try getting them to send a replacement PSU up.

What computer was it you bought from OcUK?
Was the "Titan Vantage" AMD Athlon 64 3200+ System (FS-009-OK)

Unfortunately my net is running exceptionally slow, worse than dial up, so I've not been able to upload the SS mentioned earlier.
