See what you guys think of this....

I currently have a wireless setup at home, comprising of the following:

Belkin Wireless-G ADSL router (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=187337)

An old Asus Pundit-S, with a PCI Wireless card (Ralink I think) - No problems
An Iphone 3g - No problems
A HP Laptop - No problems.

PC in Sig (Vista x64), with a Netgear "Super-G" Usb Wireless thingy.

Now, the problem lies with the PC. I can sit for hours playing GRID/CODWaW with no issues, but the moment I try to download a "large" (anything over 4-5 meg) file, the downloads stall.

For example, the latest version of Itunes - forget it.
a 3meg firmware update for the router - 10 retries, and eventually downloaded it. (Have yet to see whether firmware sorts it, at work atm)
Youtube moves - They stop buffering after a while.

Thing is, speeds whilst browsing are generally fine...browser is Ie7.

Any ideas? Im struggling to see where the problem might be, though Im guessing:

  • Router
  • Netgear adaptor
  • IE7
  • other?

See if it wokrs when conneced by ethernet cable, that should eliminate some of possibilites of ie7 vista not working, you can then concentrate on drivers and coneeection software etc.

mark 1 Vista 64 wireless drivers/ oem connection software are frequently unreliable.

occasionally some routers take exception to vista as well

Some Cheaper routers tend to crap out under sustained load as do some network adapters.
The main cause of this is encryption on the wireless connection adding workload. Try turning encryption off and seeing if it improves also try using a wired connection to see if it makes a difference if disabling security fails.
