You do know how to access the hidden security menu of the PS3 right, once you access that it will give you 4 options ;)
You want to pick the reset ps3 to default settings option ;) then it will reset outputs and let you reconfigure ;)

---
Warning to people, there are settings in here that will break your ps3 if you dont know what your doing or will format and delete everything on your ps3....

turn ps3 off
hold power button, after first bleep keep holding untill your ps3 turns off red light.
press again the power button keep holding it, it will bleep, then keep holding then it will double bleep, letgo after it double bleeps then power your ps3 back on and you will gain access to security menu.

Ok. Turn the system off. When its off, hold the power button until it switches off again. Turn it back on and it will work :)

Thats just a simple hdmi output reset, but using the security menu is much better and resets more than just the hdim output it resets your ps3 back to default on all settings...

Sounds more like a dead monitor, if its working fine on other tvs.. Have you tried anything else with that's hdmi on that monitor?

Tried the system settings restore, and no change guys - works on the TV downstairs but not on the Acer monitor - used a variety of HDMI cables with no luck, but Xbox 360 outputs via the HDMI of the monitor no problems at all.

Stumped!

Tried setting some 'safe' video settings using the downstairs TV (e.g. 720p, turn all the other video out put settings off) then connecting it to the monitor?

It's just odd in the first place that even after resetting the output, it won't work.

Weird, similar thing happened to me this weekend with my original fat PS3

Updated TLOU and the screen output went off, TV and cable still working and tested with several devices. I reset the PS3 (with the long presses on boot) reset the TV to factory turned things on and off a few times and eventually got it back working, got the occasionaly "out of range" flicker on Saturday but by yesterday it was fine.

Not sure if that helps though :S
