My 360 has this intermittent disk read error, despite the disks being flawless. The shop I got it from says they'll swap it out for a new one (warranty has 2 months to go). My question is - have the 360s in stores at the moment been fixed for the 3 rings of death problem?

Some will have the new heatsink, some wont. Just because you walk into a shop today to buy a 360 wont mean it was recently manufactured.

To be honest just go out and buy one, if it breaks it breaks.

If it's a big store with a high turn around I think there's a very good chance you'll get one with the new heatsink.

Not necessarily, I bought a 360 from a big store around February time and it had been fabbed over 6 months previous. Could have been a one off I know, I'm just saying there's no guarantee unless the shop will let you look before you buy.

Do we know whether the new heatsink has fixed the problem yet?

Not 100%.

A 360 built in August 2007 has been reported with the 3 red lights. That doesn't mean it's likely to happen, but it still can.

I bought my 360 at the end of August from a highstreet store and got a Nov 06 Xbox. Havn't had any problems with it *yet*, and I did triple-check with the store that if anything goes wrong in the first year, I just take it back to them for a straight swap.

So, I just took it back and managed to pick up one made 22-04-06! That's 9 days newer than the one I returned (which I bought in November!).

:eek::eek::eek:

bloody ell, lol so it's been sitting around for well over a year, I bought mine at the start of August and it was made in Nov 06, I thought that was bad!

I very much doubt that they were ever 'fixed', the announcement claiming they had located the problem was most likely just damage limitation.

3rlod is caused by overheating. dont let it overheat and it proberly will be fine. stuff it in a cupboard with stuff all around it and play it for 10 hours straight and that will kill it. Just use some common sense.
