It's official. Via a BIOS update, my Asus Crosshair IV Formula will be able to run the AMD Bulldozer CPUs!

Let's see how it works out. I'm all for an AMD Bulldozer CPU if it works well with my Crosshair IV Formula. If it's crap, I'll wait for Intel Ivy Bridge and be done with it!

this is just getting stupid now, so many sites 'claiming' AM3+ will work mechanically with AM3 yet AMD folk are saying Bulldozer is AM3+, end of story...? damnit, logic would tell me to trust the people actually making the processors, so trust AMD with that to use Bulldozer you must use an AM3+ board...trust is so hard to be honest!

The new beta bios says its ONLY for use of AM3+ cpu's, do not use with a AM3 cpu, so no, I wouldn't use it till you upgrade, will probably be more stable ones by then aswell.

Its also possible they'll release or have quietly released a V2.0 or something of the boards to make them compatible with AM3+ so I'd be waiting a while, for an official bios and more info before jumping in.

I've read the 500 post thread and to be honest I'm still not sure what to believe, if it's true without any catch then I can start planing my AMD build right away..

I wouldn't recommend updating your BIOS as it's definately a BETA and some users are reporting problems with overclocking on phenom's using it. It does clearly state in the change log not to use it unless its for BD.

As long as we know Asus are going to support BD on our boards AND that they are actively working on a stable BIOS for BD - its just a waiting game for the CPU's to be released now

Oh and AMD's official stance doesn't matter - As long as Asus say they will support it - thats what matters

most 8 series motherboards should get a bios update to support Bulldozer cpus..

i've always said the Bulldozer will be backward compatible to am3... it's like am2+ is backward compatible to am2.

check my post in the BD thread mate. Don't want to get false hopes up but at this moment in time only Asus have officially announced BD support and even then its only for certain boards.
