So, i'm looking to build my first computer and as such i don't really know that much, but I've put together a parts list and was wondering if there was any upgrades/improvements i can make without upping the price too much (or getting the same specs cheaper)! Planning on using it for gaming/streaming, finally upgrading from gaming on a laptop.(prices taken from cheapest website i could find)

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor -
Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card
Zalman Z11 Plus ATX Mid Tower Case
Antec TruePower Classic 550W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply
Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer

Hi and welcome.

I have deleted your prices as they are from a competitor.

What is your maximum budget?

Are you able to build a PC yourself?

Not a bad list you've put together! Only thing I'd consider is an SSD. Also is that PSU modular? Again I'd recommend a modular PSU will make things much easier and look tidier as well.

Hey, my max budget is roughly £1-1.1k really, but i could go a tiny bit higher if i needed too and yeah i can do it myself.

That PSU isn't modular, however i was looking at the Corsair CSM 450W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply which is semi-modular.

The Corsair PSU is an inferior unit and also not enough power to be honest.

I saw your final price and to be honest i cant even get close, not without making it worse+slower.

Personally I'd stick with what you have and just get a modular PSU and SSD. Samsung 850 Evo 250GB is a great unit.

Cheers, i'll look in to those points.

One more thing, is the i7 4790k worth the extra ~£100 compared to the i5 4690k? I've found contrasting opinions on it, but in terms of longevity and performance is it worth it?
