Ok ive been out of the loop for a short while and im trying to catch up with current models. So FSB , A lot of people are advertising the AM2 chips as having 1000mhz and 2000mhz FSB , i take it this is atrue 1000mhz , and the 2000mhz is using hyper transport ?

Overclockers only rate the AM2 to 800mhz though ? unless its in FX2 form then its 1000mhz ?

And then the pentum side , they have the ability to reach what ? as this technology is quad pumped ?

Cheers

The FSB of the A64 is 200Mhz, multiplied by 5 (or whatever you set the mulitplier to) to get the HTT speed of 1000Mhz, then doubled because it's going both ways.

I'm pretty sure only semprons use 800Mhz (1600Mhz) HTT.

EDIT: On the Pentium side, they have the potential to reach 4x the max FSB of the board.

Ok roger that , so some people advertising it as 2000mhz is just a marketing ploy basically.

Now , the Ram speeds , to fully appreciate the latest ram your going to need to run it at a ratio , i.e 4:5 ? otherwise the FSB of 200mhz ( or if we overclocks say near 250 x 4 ) then thats only 500 DDR when ram is capable of over 1000mhz now ?

Is it better to use slower ram and run it 1:1 with the HTT like in the XP days , or is using a ratio mor ebeneficial ?

Always use ratios, because DDR2 runs much faster than the FSBs than A64 can reach, ratios are the only way to take advantage of the increased memory speed.
