Wanted:

C2D Matx combo for overclocking.
Performance/price ratio is vital.

What is a good CPU (dual core only) price vs overclockability. (somewhere around 3 - 3.5G)

Mobo - is G33m the way to go? Are there still multiplier/divider issues?
Rig is going to be for "mobile" gaming mostly so HTPC stuff not so important. OC and stability are.

RAM - in order to compliment the above (and their potential limitations) what is a good 2Gb kit?

If anyone currently has kit that that fits the above, or can recommend something tried and tested, I will be truly thankful.

Cheers

CPU - E2*** series processor if really on a budget, E6750 if you want dual core, Q6600 G0 for quad core.

Motherboard - Asus P5K-VM if using an E2*** CPU, if you go for the E6750 or Q6600 then you may as well get the Gigabyte G33M-DS2R as it overclocks as well, but is cheaper. The Giga doesn't have 1:1 memory dividers for 200FSB CPUs though which is why I struggle to recommend it for the E2*** CPUs.

RAM - One or two Crucial Ballistix DDR2 kits, depending on how much you want! :)

I just picked up a Micro ATX Asus P5E-VM HDMI, a Q6600 G0 & another Corsair 2GB 6400C4 kit from overclockers
The Q6600 & Asus board seem to clock nicely, havnt had a load of time to fiddle to much though! but bootable into XP @ 400x9 no probs... but unstable!

currnetly running rock solid @ 333x9

I've got 4 sticks of the Corsair XMS2 6400C4 v2.1 in and running, @ CAS 5 2.1v the stuff seems to clock very well indeed, had it running upto 555Mhz which aint bad for the money, £38 for 2GB

just notice ** gonna be Dual Coring, god know im afraid, only dual core i had was T2500 before!!!

Giga board paired with a C2D 1333fsb chip and Ballistix ram :)

Is exactly what i am looking at right now...cheers:D

E6750 cpu to be exact.

Does it matter which speed ballistix?

I'm also looking at the corsair C4 stuff as above too.

Thanks all for the information and help.

The Ballistix chips are pretty much the same no matter which ones you buy, they all overclock really well.

I'd vouch for the G33M-S2 range as well, yes the 1:1 is missing but hell just get 8500+ memory and you don't need to worry :)

Currently running at 3.4Ghz on a g0 Q6600 on a boring old G33M-S2 (with OcUk 8500+ memory)

i recently bought

Core2Duo E6750
Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R Micro ATX
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)

i just upped the FSB from 333 to 400 ( from 2.66Ghz to 3.2Ghz) and it runs as solid as a rock. never had a single problem with it :D

im using the Silverstone NT06 lite. i got that one as im using it in a Silverstone Sg01 evolution, and it is made to fit in there perfectly
