Hi, I did this kinda thread on the graphics cards forum as I'm looking to upgrade sometime in the future and was wondering if there are any new CPU's that are coming out that might persuade me to get something other than an Intel Q6600?

I'm thinking in the next 3-6 months, and I know you could always hold on forever, but is there anything in this time frame that would blow away this cpu?

Tomshardware mentioned Feb/March before we saw "affordable" penryns in their recent overclocking article. Not sure how true that is, I've seen most places state January.

Direct quote from that artcile:

You may ask "And what about Penryn?" Well, Intel only just released the new processor family based on a 45-nm production process. For now, only the flagship model costing $1,464 is available. Smaller and less-expensive CPUs are still a ways off. According to Intel, it may be March 2008 before we see smaller Penryn-based CPUs hit store shelves. Thus, the Penryn family is not really much of an option for the cost-conscious buyer for the time being.

Admittedly, they also mention a rather steep price for the extreme penryn that's currently out. But I have no reason to suspect they are wrong regarding that date.
