Current stock of Dell 2007FP - S-IPS or not?

I am in the market for a 1600x1200 monitor, and have decided it must have an S-IPS panel before they all disappear completely! After much reading around about the "panel lottery" with Dell monitors, and the only alternative under £300 (HP LP2065) I'm unwilling to gamble with £25 delivery (by the way, thanks for offering a royal mail option on something so large :cool:) plus return postage to get an MVA panel so thought I'd check here to see if anyone has bought one recently and can identify which panel they got.

I have also sent a webnote, so if I get a reply I'll post it for the benefit of others in the near future :)

Thanks David, I hope you're right but a more recent purchaser would be very comforting. I haven't heard back on the webnote yet, maybe that means they received lots and have a backlog but hopefully it means they are willing to look, which will take time. If you would like to send me a PM (so you don't get banned) I would like to know where your "recent" one was purchased, incase I get the wrong answer from overclockers.

GunRunner: Thanks for the link, but none of the filters seem to work? Also it lists the HP LP2065 as S-IPS only, but I have read in several places that some are MVA. Maybe it hasn't been updated in a while, or maybe they now have switched permanently, but then anyones stock could have sat for a while and be the old panel type so either way I can't rely on that list :(

I have looked for hours at many slightly dodgy looking UK sites, the only guaranteed S-IPS I've found in stock in the uk is £330 + p&p and from a site no-one I know has heard of! I really hope overclockers can come good again as it would save money and I know I'll get a delivery not a discussion with my credit card company.

I got a reply to my webnote, OCUK are unable to check a serial number so have lost my order unless someone who's bought one in the last couple of months comes forward soon! It's a shame, but as I said in the beginning £25 +return costs is too much to gamble, so my search goes on :(

Sorry fish, that came across rather rude - not intended at all. Just that Dwbreeze1982 was also talking about the widescreen version, why can't they come up with distinctive names? Then again, they can't even make the same product the same so we have little hope for naming :(
 
Thanks Sallermas. Nice to know that all rev A05's are IPS, now I just need to find a stockist who will guarantee an A05 - more chance than hoping they will look at serials! Unfortunately OCUK don't list the revision, the last review on there had A05 but that was last August...

Nice as the new one looks it's widescreen so I shall continue to search for a 2007FP.

Hi Tute

Here are some instructions to check the panel type, I haven't tested them but it sounds easy enough.

"shut the monitor down with the Power button, then turn it on again keeping the Menu and “+” buttons pressed. When the monitor wakes up you should release those buttons and, after a second, press the “-“ button. RT803 code denotes an S-IPS matrix whereas an S-PVA matrix would be indicated with the UW473 code"

Dell seemingly randomly changes the panel type, but if you have bought one recently from overclockers I'm very interested in what you got - only 4 left in stock!
 
Someone returned one and that to me means only one thing - they hoped for S-IPS and didn't get it! At least they saved me the hassle :)

Thanks to all who tried to help, but it's thread closed as far as I'm concerned - I'll have to find one elsewhere.

Hmm... you raise a good point - one returned from RMA would probably go back into general stock. It's sold again now either way! If it was a returned RMA though it would come from a different batch and possibly be a different panel to the rest of the stock, so that only make even trusting someone who bought one recently a bit dodgy. All round just not helpful at all :( for the 10 seconds it would take to check each monitor I'm surprised they don't just do it - I'd happily pay an extra £10 for a guaranteed S-IPS much like a guaranteed stepping of CPU.

Ah well, seems my thoughts make no sense to large stockists, as none seem to be willing to check in the UK.
 
Dell indeed sell everything more expensive, as do most manufacturers. Not sure why really, should be less middlemen so cheaper! And paying the extra £100 to buy direct won't guarantee you an S-IPS model, plenty of people tried and were disappointed (although most are in USA/Canada...) so you'd may as well risk one from overclockers and have £100 to drown your sorrow at getting an MVA :p
 
Are there any 20" non widescreens in the uk for less? Not many. MVA would be fine so long as you're not one of the unlucky ones who get headaches just from using them or a pro photographer but as with anything it's mainly those who have problems who comment on them being bad, so maybe it only affects 1/1000 users but out of 10000 all 10 complain while very few are looking for places to defend them so the general opinion looks bad.

At least 8 people have bought on in just over a week with only one possibly returned so they can't be that bad!

Damn, seems like I'm talking myself into getting one :eek:
