currently overclocking my cpu... abit amazed atm

okay so im using stock cooling LOTS of case flow.

idle used to max out at about 37c

its a 2.8 ghz AMD athlon 2 1.4v standard? :S

well im using AMD overdrive to overclick it as i havnt much of a clue what im doing all going well been running itself for about an hour now. currently at 3.2ghz.... and its only 40c at 100%? all other temps havnt changed now i have smart fan enabled so the fans wont max out till 55c. how much more will this overclock for? is it normal? :O

im looking to OC till i get to about 50c max load. so when the summer comes ill expect it to hit 55 - low 60c


edit: its now at 3.3ghz 41c max load?

blue screened at 3.40 ghz on stock voltage VERY pleased prime HEAT test hits around 43 - 45c max

now running at at steady 3.36ghz

Is this a dual or a quad cpu? What is the model?

If it is dual then temps will not be nearly as high as a quad.

yea pretty proud atm, with stock cooling. temps look so awesome, think ill give 3.4ghz a bash then leave it there till i save up for a better cooler

Or a quad core. However I would get a decent cooler and try for 4ghz with a voltage increase

Have you tried unlocking it yet? I have no idea what this athlon will unlock to but there are a few people about who have done something with them.

Try posting on / reading the athlon thread I posted above.

I dont think he can unlock to quad but he may be able to unlock extra cache...?

I know some people (Uriel?) have been able to unlock extra functionality with Athlon chips. No idea about that specific model though.

dual core athlons are native dual core and wont unlock. athlon x3s will unlock into athlon x4s, phenom x2/x3's will unlock into phenom x4s.

if you're EXTREMELY lucky, there are a VERY FEW athlon dual cores floating around that are actually phenom quads, but the chances of a)getting hold of one (theres no way of really telling) and b)actually getting a stable unlock are pretty dam slim

okay got a nice overclock at 3.53ghz, max temp is about 60 - 64c, seems pretty stable atm all other temps look good, obv i need a better cooler for anything more, what would you guys recomend (air cooling)

Depends on the size of your case.

Coolermaster Hyper TX3 should be fine for a dual. I had it on an overclocked triple and kept load temps under 50.
