So my rig is refusing to start as a needed file is currupt*apparently*
so well i dont have the windows CD as i lent it to my friend and he moved to edinbrugh without returning it :(

the file is: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

so well i was wondering if this file is small maybe someone might be able to send it to me via the internet then i can replace it using knopix?
is that possible?

Thanks, shimy

can you boot into safe mode?

Google the file you are after, i am sure someone has it somewhere to download then replace the file through safe mode.

what is the file you are after, you have only given its location?

Get a windows 98 boot disk so you can get into dos and then replace the file.

It might work.

In that case i'm guessing you will need the XP cd, Get your friend to send it back ASAP or see if you can borrow one from work.

i dont think its a big file and i need it quick.. can someone email theres to me?

[email protected]

heres my email.
windows is refusing to start in all ways. not even safemode.
but so cunningly i have managed to turn it on using knopix so i can use that to replace that file. You can find the file in that location thankyou.

o yeah i may have forgotten to say..
i have scratched my windows XP disk that it cannot be used again..

Thought it was in Edinburgh?

Also I had this problem, twice in the past few months. It's not just one file, it's a folder with about a dozen files in it. And when I tried to copy it from my other computer, it started yapping about the files already being in use so I just went and reinstalled it.
