There's one pretty much next door to my work so I do drop in from time to time to see what they have on offer or to get an idea of what I want to order online, but the only things I ever buy are accessories.
I went in the other day as I needed a new HDMI cable and like others, was shocked to see that they were charging £85 for gold plated ones, £65 was the cheapest I saw!! Needless to say I walked straight back out and ordered one for 20x cheaper from a certain forest.
There was one time about 2 years ago, I took my iPod in to get repaired (for some reason because I bought from PC world, Apple wouldn't let me send it to them directly) and the poor fellow at the front of the queue had his little daughter with him and was picking up two internet laptops from repair, a pink one, presumably his daughter's and a black one. The guy behind the counter simply told the man "the CPUs are dead in both of these laptops and will cost £100 each to repair." No explanation on how they died or why both of them died at the same time, just some "techie" explanation that most people don't bother to ask about cos they don't know any better.
I understand that the sales guys are under pressure to sell, but the repair team aren't much better imo. Anyone who charges £50 to install a piece of software should be well avoided!
