Currys return policy?

So I bought a Samsung tablet from currys recently (spur of the moment) but realised that I probably had no use for a tablet since I use my computer at home and dont need to use a tablet (ie use my phone when not on computer).

I powered it on looked at it for about 10 mins to show my wife the pretty screen but then boxed it up.

Tried to return the item to the store - they wouldnt take it said I had to return online via dps - next I called currys to dbl check their return policey they said since I turned on the tablet that I cannot return it. They said any item that you "use" ie turn on you cannot return - this includes tvs anything that you turn on. I quoted their website "

Our policy​

If you purchased online, you can return your items within 14 days even if you have opened it for inspection. It must be returned as new and in its original packaging."

and was told inspection doesnt mean to turn it on so you cannot return said item.

I argued that inspection doesnt mean you cannot turn it on and nowhere on the website does it say you cannot power on a device. But the woman was adamant that I cannot return said item since I powered it on.

I asked about distance selling rules and she didnt seem to care?

What do you think am I stuck with a tablet that I dont need?

hmmm ya ... may do that but I have a dpd tracking number so I think Im going to 'try' to return and if they ask I will say I "opened" for inspection but did not turn on. Im not trying to pull a fast one I just dont need the tablet.
 
You didnt turn it on... did you..... for them to prove you did and they cant.. issue solved.

I did turn it on - literally for about 10 mins total ... well as quoted above from their website I found it strange the words opened for inspection ... anyways if they ask I will say I didnt turn it on but as someone else said they maybe can check but not sure. It is buyers remorse ... saw a sale and had gift cards (so regretfully I cant talk to my cc about it) gift cards and paypal so only part paypal.
 
To be fair to them, why should they have to sell an opened and contaminated used unit because you've changed your mind

I bought a microwave from them last month, put it on my worktop, was too big and returned it no hastle at all. If I had used the microwave I would have accepted that I could not return it, no matter what or how I had used it for

Lesson learned I say - get it on marketplace etc and get what you can for it before the price drops too much
Maybe its because I come from the states and you can return anything to the store as long as you didnt break it. Or funny thing is I bought a oculus quest 2 last year for my kid and he got sick off it and they let me return it to currys? - anyways ... Thats the price you pay for running a retail business people return things ... anyways ... just seems weird and I didnt see the words on the website about no powering on ie its not listed and never heard of that before.
