Hi Guys,

Sorry its a long one but I wanted to try and eliminate having to ask standard questions

Been following the forum and been buying for years but never joined.

I have a problem thats been plaguing me now for 3 weeks.

I decided that I wanted a new rig so built the following...

M4A89GTD PRO/USB3
AMD Phenom II 955 BE (with Artic Cooling Freezer 13)
Geil Black Dragon 2x2GB 9-9-9-28 1600MHz (GB34GB1600C9DC)
XFX 8800GT 512mb AD (While I wait for MSi HAWK)
Antec 900
WD Caviar Green 1TB 64mb cache

Built it with Windows 7 Ultimate x86 and built like a dream, no problems, started installing everything (antivirus, flash, firewall, firefox, blah blah blah) and it seemed ok. So copied my old harddrive contents to second partition on the new HDD. All OK.

Then I started experiencing CPU fan problems, quickly fixed by turning off QFan.

Then the HDD started to hang randomly forcing a hard reset which was combined with persistent and constant physical memory dump blue screens. Switched back to my old WD Blue 250GB with Win 7 x64 this time.

Seems OK and runs fine for a few days, so after research i find out other people experiencing the hang with Caviar Greens, no problem, returned to vendor and awaiting a Caviar Black.

So I figure ill overclock a little... Long story short and after much messing I got to 4.05GHz with prime 95 torture tested for over 4 hours and stable with 19 on the multiplier, 213 on FSB, RAM at 1420Mhz @ 1.625v and 9-9-9-24. Chuffed. Turned on today and back to memory dumps... Memtest86'ed and errored. took the overclock all off and Memtested fine, put RAM to 1600MhZ @ 1.6 and errored out. Even tried it at 9-9-9-28 (advertised) and still no joy! Tried various different volts up to 1.65V and no dice, switch back to 1333MHz which is what my mobo auto sets it to and memtested again with everything standard, fine, been running prime for about 3 hours with no errors.

My question is, is this bad RAM? If so RMA or burn in lower and eek up? Why will it not run at advertised frequency? I havent overclocked in years but from what I remember I havent done much to upset the apple cart? If I have I would appreciate a pointer as I have gotten seriously rusty in the last 4 years!

Cheers guys,

Will.

Have you reset the bios to default at all during this process? Have you tried different memory or that set in a different machine then ran it at advertised timings and tested?

The BIOS is at default at the moment, just had a crash when I got into Windows and one during Windows update when I restarted. Going to try update to the latest BIOS in the hope that this cures it.

Unfortunately dont have any other memory to test it with, I am trying to borrow some at the moment and borrow a friends system to test mine in.
