Cursor disappears in word and facebook

My friend has a vista laptop and when he uses Word 2003, if he chooses autoshapes the cursor disappears completely - he can draw a shape if he clicks but obviously the cursor isnt visible. It appears if you move it off the page, but disappears again when he moves it back onto the document.

The same thing happens on facebook when trying to tag a photo....any ideas whats causing this?

Vista - install XP

Yeah. Of course you can't use Word on Vista..... perhaps he doesn't have an XP license? Are you willing to donate one?
