Curved anti-glare gaming monitor advice

Hey all

My PC is in the attic so the only natural light source (roof window) often creates a lot of glare. It's just about tolerable when browsing the web, but when gaming I currently have to pull down the blind and either sit in darkness, or use a floor lamp I've put behind my monitor. None of these setups are ideal, but as rearranging the furniture isn't practical I'm looking into monitors (preferably curved) that'll at least reduce the issue.

Current monitor is nothing special: an ASUS PB278Q.

I spent the afternoon reading up on modern gaming monitors and quickly fell down a rabbit hole of VA vs TN vs IPS, and whether or not QLED is worth it, and it's safe to say I'm no expert in this realm.

Monitors I'm currently considering:-

ASUS ROG Strix XG27WQ - £469.99

ASUS ROG Strix XG32VC - £518.99

Gigabyte Aorus CV27Q-EK - £368.99

Samsung Odyssey G7 LC27G75TQSRXXU - £549.95

(Looking for a minimum of 27", maximum of 32")

I've been quite blown away by the difference in price between monitors which appear to be very similar in spec. Am I burning money by getting an ROG, or will that QLED and those extra lights actually be really beneficial for when I'm gaming in the dark/to fight off glare?

Please weigh in with any and all advice, suggestions and opinions.

Don't know much about the particular monitors you've listed, but have you considered some bias lighting strips to go behind the monitor? Either cheap & cheerful dumb lights or "ambilight" type which will follow what is shown around the edges of the screen?

Some monitors also have these built in (although unfortunately the only one I know off the top of my head is the LG 38GN950, which is much bigger than you are looking for)

I'm not sure that I entirely understand your problem, however my home office is in part of my house where the roof is and I have a Velux window right above my workstation. If there is any hint of sun I need to adjust the blind to stop reflections on my monitor which is now a Samsung G9 Neo VA curved panel. I doubt that any monitor would avoid my having to do that - it's just the reality of light reflecting on the surface.

I've seen a couple of flat rectangular strips which offer this - do you know of any good bendable/curved ones that would fit okay on a curved monitor? They do sound like a worthwhile investment.

I have the NZXT Hue 2 Ambient kit, which works fine on my 35" curved, the strips are a sort of flexible rubber, so no issues following the curve. It was about £50, but that's for one which reflects the onscreen colours.

If you're happy with just a "dumb" version, then there are plenty of generic ones for half the price (or less!)

Edit:

I believe this is the one I have:

If you go with that option, just be careful you get the right one for your monitor size, as there are 2 versions with different sized strips in

Phillips Hue also makes similar kits - Personally, that would be my choice..

The Hue version is for TVs really since the smallest size is for 55", it's also significantly more expensive! The strip itself is £150+, and you also need the Hue Bridge and the HDMI sync box which will be another £200+ so £350 vs the £50 or so I paid for the NZXT (or £80 from OcUK I linked above).

Corsair do a version too, LS100 iirc, which is slightly more expensive than the NZXT one
