Looking at getting a 27" 144hz monitor , and wondering which is better for gaming , a flat or curved monitor ? I like the look of the acer predator 1080 curved but don't know weather I'd prefer it to a flat monitor for playing mainly competitive shooters ?

curved looks awesome, and is probably needed on a 34" ultrawide, not so much on the 27, as has been said.

bear in mind though, its much better than a curved tv, as you generally sit in the same position, the 'sweet spot'.

curved only really works when u have 34+" ultrawide x34 etc..

and u sit foot or so away its perfect and adds to immersion!

At the end of the day, it's really up to you.
There are points to consider however, space is 1 - the amount of space on the desk and the depth of your desk, cost of ultrawide vs flat is 2.

IMO if you're going for "curved", theyre usually the ultrawides, not really worth getting anything other than the 3440x1440 ones which the sweetspot for is 34".
You might as well go for a flat screen 27" 1440p 144hz over the ultrawide 1080p's

X34 curved is fantastic. I can't imagine going back now! Gaming or normal desktop use, when browsing the web and working or whatever to windows open You tube, document etc

Now that's the problem for me because they are all $$$£££$$$

Curved is user dependant. I personally don't like curved monitors or tvs for that matter. The curve has been added purely because they now can and normally you pay extra for it. Marketing nonsense imo.

This has been done to death, but it's pretty simple really....

On a PC monitor curved isn't really necessary until you start getting to 34 inches. For these, like the superwide x34 the subtle curve is mainly to mitigate against IPS glow in the corners, an unfortunate side effect of IPS tech and more noticeable with a big screen if you sit near to it.
You could also argue that it's slightly more 'immersive' with a curved screen, when sitting right in front of it.

For televisions, when you're sitting way back like most people do (8-9 feet in the average UK home?), a curved screen is absolutely pointless, and is really a marketing gimmick.
