Hi all,

I've got my rig delivered - in bits, and was yesterday busy building away. I have been left with 2 questions / queries that hopefully someone could help me out with.

Firstly: CD-in. I have the Samsung SATA DVD-R/W (CD-076-SA - Samsung SH-W163). This has the SATA + power slot but nowhere for the CD audio cable to plug into (you know, the thin grey one that plugs into the sound card). Is this required anymore or is the signal sent through the SATA wire?

Secondly: Power: I have the Abit AN8-32X nForce4 SLi (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-092-AB) and an ASUS 7950 GX2 graphics card. I'm trying to work out what power supplies / cables are required to be plugged in from my PSU.
Pretty obviously the power cable from the PSU to the graphics card itself is required (top right corner of pic). But the MoBo also has an auxiliary 12V power connector [ATX4P1] which I'm not sure if this needs a power feed linked when I've seperatly powered the Graphics card. - Basically I don't want to burn the thing out with to much power! The MOBO manual states " it's highly recommended to attach 12V power from the power supplier for the best system stability." but is that ONLY when there is no seperate power going into the graphics card?

Other than that, with the help of the build guide in this forum I've got one very impressive rig :D

Any help much appriciated.

Regards,

Womack

Nah you don't need that audio cable at all. I haven't seen one for years!

What shape is the plug, is it a 4 pin square? If so this is for the CPU and not the graphics. The graphics gets all the needed power through the PCI-E slot and the cable you plugged in.

Nothing else has anything to do with graphics.

Sorry, I should have put the full quote in from the manual:

"The auxiliary 12V power connector [ATX4P1] provides an additional power source for devices added on PCI Express slots. It is highly recommended to attach 12V power from the power supplier for the best system stability."

A picture of the connector is linked in my first post - (it looks like a standard 4 pin power plug that powers the HDD). But as I said, I've got an power independant feed from my PSU directly to the graphics card - so it this just overkill?
