Custom Build Gaming PC Specs

It needs to be an IDE to work with the rest of the components. I am using stulid's specs and I have to use an IDE HDD for it to work.

You can use any drive either SATA or IDE, i thought you could just use your existing one using honosuseri comment.

What with the Asus M4N68T-M LE NForce 630a (Socket AM2+/AM3) DDR3 Motherboard?

There are 4 SATA connectors as well as 1 IDE. So just use the IDE to connect the old HDD and old optical drive and plug the new one into one of the SATA ports.

My existing HDD is only 110GB :( I'm not using that one as my main one (using it for backup) cus it's too small. Thanks for telling me, now i'll look at SATA and IDE HDDs and see which ones are cheapest, and better.

We seemed to have confused you a lil bit. Stulid pointed out that asus mobo as it had an IDE port so you could reuse the old dvd drive or the HDD if it was IDE as I suggested.

The mobo will come with sata cables, if you want to buy a sata hdd and dvd drive now, you can. I just felt it was a waste of money to do so now. It's your build, you decide what you want

*edit* buy a sata HDD if you are buying one, dont get an IDE one

I get it now :) I'll buy a SATA HDD as my main HDD, and use my old HDD (110GB) for backup :) I'll post the list again after this post...

Here is the setup:

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5830 £85.99
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 "125W Edition" 3.20Ghz (Socket AM3 £95.99
CoolerMaster Elite 430 Windowed Case £64.99
Asus M4N68T-M LE NForce 630a (Socket AM2+/AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £47.99
OCZ Special OPS 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £34.99
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM £30.98
Sony Optiarc AD-5260S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) £15.98
Windows 7 Home Premium - 1 PC £60.00

Now I'll use a SATA HDD, and my old 110GB as my backup

It does but you are losing sight of the big picture sk82jack......I got my way and he's salvaging the HDD!!! lol

Seriously though, good luck with it. I've enjoyed the banter with you and the lads getting you there. Any issues when u and dad come to build it you know where we are.

Well I had hoped he could get a better gfx card and a few games chucked in to play too but hey ho. I understand he is young and wants it all now. I hold out hope that dad will read our lengthy discussion, see what we were trying to achieve and improve the spec for him.

*edit* the 5850 is only £18 more than the 5830. Maybe you could stretch the budget ever so slightly to that ;)
