Ahoy
I have recently built a new PC, this is my build and recently it's started to scat ot big style. The PC worked fine up until i got an 8800GTS and 4GB OCZ RAM. Vista will stop working, even after numerous reinstallation and formats the PC and Vista will decide to freeze.

PC specs are as follows:

Intel E6600
Abit IN9-32X Max Wifi
1GB 5300 Samsung DDR2
Seagate Barracuda 320GB S ATA II 16mb cache
Seventeam 550w ATX PSU
ATi X500 PCI-E

Please help and offer advice as to what component is the problem or how to test etc. As this stuff was purchased in March from various online retailers, would they still be within warranty and able to be replaced?
Thank you

Yep my mate just installed vista and was getting a lot of restarts and freeze's, gave him a stick of my ram to use in the mean time and all is well. So go with whats been mentioned test your ram on mem test can be found HERE

had the same problem mine was the ram to.. make sure you test it on diffrent slots too as it could be the slot rather than the stick itself

Well, the problems all seemed to start when i installed the 4GB of OCZ stuff. Up until then Vista was working fine. Now i have reverted back to my old RAM and the problem seems to have remained. A friend of mine has suggested the PSU, and the RAM may be the problem. But could the RAM be responsible for all of this grief?

YES!

8/10 is the RAM IMO. Which OCZ kit do you have?

Have you tried using just 1 stick? How about increasing the voltage (try 2 / 2.1V)? Did you overclock or set manual timings?

Yep, the ram is a very important part of the system. If thats playing up you can have all sorts of problems.

How much was the psu if you dotn mind me asking as i haven't heard of them before.

Not clear to me from your posts if you have the 8800gts in your system or not - if you do it could be that its higher power requirements are the issue with your PSU.

Seventeam 300W was the first PSU I ever bought and it was rock solid, it's still working in my first custom built PC. Not sure about the latest models though but I'd imagine they should be pretty decent, too.

I upped the voltage on the OCZ to 2.0v after initially it didn't work, no change. I have reverted back to the X550 after i thought the 8800GTS might be consuming too much power and starving the other components. But even though i've gone back to the old setup, the one that worked flawlessly the problems still exist.

I think that when you put the OCZ RAM in it changed the timings or speed rating in the BIOS due to the new SPD of the OCZ RAM. Try resetting your BIOS to safe defaults for now and see if that helps the problem.

As mentioned above run the memtest from the vista DVD. You can boot using the Vist DVD and run the memtest from the menu without impacting your current installation.

He he my first pc had a 90w(iirc) random no name psu and thats still working rock solid what like 7 years on :D *touches table*

I tried reseting the CMOS, but to no avail. Each time the PC is booted up it has a different result, I.E. It'll boot to Vista then freeze after 10 mins, or it will freeze on the loading bar etc. I shall try with new RAM and PSU.
