Ok not sure were this should go so ill stick it here, Im redecorating my computer room and really fancy a new desk the only problem being that i can never find one big enough, low enough or one that just feel rite to me so i prefer building my own. Usually for this i use a piece of nice shiny black kitchen work bench from B&Q or somewere of the same but if im hounest its a little lacking in depth so i have come to ask for advice on materiels best suited for making a desk.
My woodwork skills and tools are limited so im looking for the easiest solution, id like it in black or white, or some other solid colour or in other words im not looking for a woodgrain or wood effect look.
I dont know how good painting wood would be because of the constant abuse it would take so any experiance you can draw form would be appreaciated.

how wide do you want it to be and do you need stuff underneath it.

The reason for asking is that ikea do some 'tops' and 'legs' which you put together. Just a quick look found a top (vika furuskog) thats 2m wide by 60cm deep made out of 2.6cm solid pine for £21 and can be treated with stain/paint etc - I'd assume it can be cut etc too.
Now legs can easily be bought at b&q etc (them shiny silver kitchen style for example or some 2x2 cut to length etc) or you could go for one from the ikea range.
