Does anyone know where i can get a better Heatsink then what ive got.

Ive got an Inspiron 1150 laptop and its just overheating too much and its so frustrating.

I have a fan attatched to the heatsink, what can i change this to?? I need a better one.. Linkys if possible. Its only a smallish one, about the size of a bottom of a jaffa cake maybe a lil larger not much though.

Ive got paste but i need better stuff..

I need to mod the case aswell if possible..

I want to mod that heatsink aswell, this is what it looks like now - Heatsink.

Check this thread out too... Thermal paste problem!!!

Cheers,

James.

IS that your heatsink in the pics?

If not, I'd suggest opening the laptop and cleaning the gigantic dust bunny out of it. My 1300 was inaudible when I first got it, and gradually got louder and louder with the fan on more often and at higher settings. In the end it tripped a thermal shutdown trying to boot windows instead of Linux for the first time in weeks (more stressful I assume).
A good picking out of solid lumps of fluff and it was good as new. Getting on for time to do it again too.

i switch the laptop off and hoover through the air vents from time to time.

how are you using your laptop btw?
laptops are designed to have a small clearance (1-3mm) between the table surface and the underside of the case to allow for cooling air. make sure you use it on a hard surface, ive seen quite a few over heats because of this.

Dust was the 1st thing i checked for ive emptied it all out now its all clean, but it still heats up, its pretty useless..

Hoovering through the ports seems like a rite idea!!

As for the elevation, its on the side of the sofa, the fan for the cpu is clear and as are the others as i put on the edge.

It works fine for so long and then just flames up..
