Current Specs;

Asus P8Z68 GEN3 Motherboard
Intel i5 2500k 3.3ghz
ASUS GTX 570 Direct CU II
16Gb Corsair Vengance DDr3 1600Mhz
Crucial 64Gb SSD SATA III
750W OCZ ZT Series PSU
Corsair H80 Watercooling
Corsair Carbide 500R Case

I am looking to replace my H80 upgrade my GPU to a 580/590 and a custom loop for it all but not sure if my case is capable of it and if not what would be the best replacements and parts to use for my goal.

If possible I am looking to revive an old case of mine, Gigabyte 3D mercury. Its a full tower case with plenty of room unlike the 500R and was thinking could I save myself money and upgrade this case. It already comes with a 120m radiator in the top with a resevoir. Only problem is the CPU block and bracket is for my old LGA775 sockter but im sure it can be replaced?

I was thinking If i drained the fluid & gave the case a good clean I could possibly fit a new CPU block and even use the built in splitters to add a new loop for my GPU but my concern is the 120m fan and pump having the power to pump the required fluid and keep the temps cool.

If it would be a struggle is it possible to add a new radiator into the loop somewhere an loop it all together? Could be more trouble than its worth so i am asking for advice here really on the best solution as the end results with the gigabyte could be excellent or it maybe it should be avoided and I should replace my 500r & h80 with a tj07 and new custom loop.

Thanks for any help or suggestions :)

Matt

Welcome to the forums :)

The 500R can fit a 240 rad, which isn't bad... but not great either.

If you have the money and are willing to spend, then the TJ07 is an excellent watercooling case!

Not sure about te gigabyte case, how many rads can it fit?

Here's a spec if you do the TJ07:

YOUR BASKET
1 x EK-CoolStream RAD XTX (480) £98.98
1 x OcUK Tech Lab - D5 Vario Pump & Alphacool Clear HF D5 Top Value Combo £84.98
1 x EK-FC7970 Full Cover Waterblock - Nickel Plexi **EN Nickel Plating** £79.99
1 x EK Supreme HF CPU Waterblock - Nickel Plexi £56.99
1 x EK Dual Bay Spin Reservoir - Acetal £46.99
1 x Mayhems Pastel - Blueberry Blue Coolant 1L £14.99
4 x Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm 1450 RPM - 3 Pin £12.98 (£51.92)
1 x Masterkleer Hose Pack PVC 15,9/11mm (7/16ID) Clear 3.3m £10.88
1 x OcUK Tube Cutter Aluminum 3-14mm £8.50
10 x OcUK 1/2" G1/4 - FatBoy Style - Black Nickel - Barb Fitting £1.68 (£16.80)

change the block for the GPU obviosuly :p

Dislike my 500r already an only had this rig since start of year. I have been advised about getting the TJ07 by various people but thought might be able to revive the gigabyte.

Its a big case, has 2 x 120mm fans on the back so you could fit a 240 rad there i think, plus it has the 120m rad built in the top with the pump & reservoir. Just thought if i fit a 240m rad to the back push pull setup i could add the tubing into the existing loop and go from cpu to the 2nd rad & to my 580s or 590.

Thanks for the shopping list :)

Not so sure about 590 and CPU running on 240 and 120mm RADs.
Make sure the built in RAD of your old case does not use Aluminium!
Only some cases can accommodate 240RAD at the rear, some times RAD gets in the way of the side panel, and some times not enough room to fix the GPU on the 1st PCI-E slot!

It has the 120rad pump & res in the top and the cpu block fitted but im sure i can replace it. Am i right in saying it would need more rads to cool the cpu & gpu as just adding new tubing onto the 2 remaining splitters wouldnt be best results?
