Hey all,

I made my first watercooled build about 6 months ago following and using advice from members on here and all went really well and have been using pc daily and all been great, but as of late i noticed the idle temp was about 37c and under load about 55c and obviosly that a lot higher than usual and having a look around the loop I found this, all be it bloody distgusting.

My pc is used every single day, I mean it does get hot in my room often as on third floor and sun pours in onto PC bUt surely this shouldn't happen in 6 months? Was mayhems premixed coolant so thought would have chemicsls in to stop this? When I run the pc I can barely if at all see any fluid even moving in the pub/res as previously I would see it bubble abit and moce up and down.

What should I do and how to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Hey All,

Thanks for the replies and well all the parts where brand new from here no second hands parts where used, I think where I went rather wrong was I didn't flush the system with any kind of fluid at all, I literally fitted everything straight off and filled up with Mayhems UV Green Dye and went from there, Could the brand new parts of had something in to cause this??

Meant to be Green fluid as per the picture below:

If I got Green tubing and then used distiller water with a couple of kill coils would that stop this from happening again? Also where abouts would you put the coils?

Again thanks in advance for any help. Assume its ok to use PC at the moment if I need to? Only down side would be warmer temps?

So in short, best thing to do is remove everything from case, clean out each block by flushing them individually and same thing with top and bottom radiators and then replace all the tubing.

In terms of stopping this from happening again would some Green tubing with clear distilled water be better and then put 1-2 kill coils in the bay res? or would I need kill coils and some other type of chemical to add to the distilled water?

Hi Michael,

many thanks for the reply, I will pop you over an email today and go through a couple of bits if thats OK again thanks for prompt reply and help with the problem.

Regards
Craig

Wil do, will make a post with some pictures etc and let you know how to clean out goes :)

Thanks again Michael and Mayhems of course.

Hi Ploppy,

I am just waiting for the kit from Mayhems to arrive then I will be well I am not to sure really if to just use the kit, which involves draining the system multiple times but it does save not having to replace pipes and pull the rads back out, or do I go all out and just replace all the pipes and completely dismantle the system for an indepth clean of the rads/blocks.

Cheers for the reply, I may do a mix of both as you said just to make sure, and as you said its odd its its a layer of well just white gunk it looks like and the lower part the looks green and nast is just from the fluid, I shined a tourch in and it looks like its covering the entire top of the fluid :|

Stupidly I didn't design the loop to well and the pipe going to the inlet of the pump and the pipe coming out the pump to the cpu block are really short so I can just pull the pump out the front drive bay and have a look zzzz

Thanks again Michael and Mayhems and look forward to seeing if the kit fixes the problem as per above when I loose closely at the stuff inside it looks like its pure white almost like a white build-up of dust/crystals or something and its sitting ontop of the liquid in the res/pump and the bottom part of the build-up has soaked up some of the liquid hence its gone a slight green as the bottom hence green UV fluid.

Very odd :\ I would have thought mould or some kind of algae to actually be a nasty brown green goo not pure white powder looking.

Hey All,

Apologies for the revival of a slightly old thread but after Mayhem sending me a free cleaning kit, I eventually (7 months later) finally got around to cleaning out the system and changing all the pipes. fluids, and adding a silver coil.

After opening the res and emptying it the gunk at the top stayed in place depsite having no fluid in it at all and it was coated/stuck to the top and was very strange stuff indeed didn't smell bad at all, was almost like some kind of limescale or something but wasnt much in there at all so cleared it out and used the Mayhems kit and system is now good as gold, went for clear fluid and UV green tubing now and much happier. So thanks Mayhem :D
