Custom Loop Order

Planning my first custom loop and I’m wondering on the loop order:

1 – Pump/Res > GPU > 240 Rad top > CPU > 240 Rad front > Pump/Res
2 – Pump/Res > GPU > CPU > 240 Rad top > 24 Rad front > Pump/Res

I may add a 2nd GPU later on and wondering if the 1st option would be better in the long run.

For some reason I was under the assumption the temps would be lower with #1 but #2 would be by far the tidiest and avoid the tubing stretching across the inside of the case.

Sorry GiraffePencils, I know you said #2 on my project thread, but I seemed to have gotten it in my head that the temps would be higher this way - good to know as I've got bits arriving soon :D

Can someone advise, what tubing can you use with 1/4 fittings? My assumption was the tubing would state this as a dimension, but it does - slightly stuck!

1/4" is the screw fitting into the component its a standard size. The one you need to look at is the OD/ID(inner diameter and outer diameter).

For example these 16/11mm 1/4" fittings;

Will fit any 16/11mm tube;

If you're going for barbs rather than compressions you only have to worry about the ID.

I haven't used barbs but iirc you're supposed to select barbs that are slightly bigger than the tube to make a tight fit.

Thanks!

A very kind forum member has given me 6 EK 1/4" Chrome Compression fittings at 3/8 which I've snapped up :) Just need to STOP shopping for parts this month as I'll end up broke :rolleyes:

Guidance on fittings

Without hijacking another thread, I thought I'd ask in my own.

Starting my first custom loop and I've had conflicting comments over the different types of fittings and their reliability.

XPSC - Cheap and cheerful, but will they last?
EK - Since I've been given some, I'm going to use these but need to keep the colour scheme - was looking at other chrome fittings
Bitspower - Renounced for quality but not cheap

What would you choose & why?

Do whatever that makes the most sense in terms of order inside your case. But you GENERALLY want the majority of your pumps pressure in the blocks. So Pump --> blocks.

I really do hope you're not getting a piece of **** pump. But im sure you already chose a d5 without having to read the thread or ask you...

Also about fittings. I just use cheap ass barbs with zipties, its cheap and easier to tighten in some areas because if you cant fit your hand to screw a compression fitting you're ****ed :D. Ive had no leaks because i make sure they're tight. And my zipties are black so they look decent :)

I do - I've got one of these

nah, definitly a dull logo

Nice stash you have there :)

On another note - There are some fantastic people on this forum, I've just been offered another 12 EK compression fittings - I appreciate your support & patience! Thanks :)

They're not that much weaker. It's a trade off between increased noise and potentially less reliability v 10% more flow. Unless you've got a OTT loop the extra flow isn't going to do anything much for you.

I've been looking at video on YT and they seem quiet enough. I'm only going to be running a CPU, GPU and 2x240 rads in a micro ATX case. There maybe scope for adding another GPU later on.

ok, revisiting this as I'm slowly collecting parts.

I already have:

1x 240mm radiator
1x EK CPU Block
2x GTX Titan EK blocks
6x 16/11 Compression Fittings
1x XPSC Res/Pump Combo

This is what I'm looking at. I'm also wanting to add a drain point:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Hardware Labs Black ICE Radiator GTX-Lite 240 £29.99
1 x EK-FC Bridge DUAL Serial £13.98
1 x Aqua Computer Ball Valve plug/cool £7.99
1 x XSPC LCD Temperature Sensor (Red) V2 + G1/4" Plug Sensor £5.99
1 x XSPC HighFlex Hose 7/16" ID, 5/8" OD, 15.9/11.1mm, 2m, Black £5.99
2 x Mayhems Ultra Pure H2O Watercooling Fluid 1L £4.99 (£9.98)
2 x XSPC G1/4" 90° Rotary Fitting (Black Chrome) £4.49 (£8.98)
2 x XSPC G1/4" 45° Rotary Fitting (Black Chrome) £4.49 (£8.98)
1 x XSPC G1/4" 4 Way Fitting (Black Chrome) £3.95
Total : £95.82 (includes shipping : ).

Double check you can use that Bridge with the Csq blocks i sent you, otherwise it wont fit.
Hard tubing, soft tubing?

Ahh right - I do need a bridge as it would be easier than using fittings to link 2 cards.

Snips how much rad space are you planning on getting?

I only have space for 2x 240mm which should be fine!

Looking at this atm:
