Custom Number Plates

A friend of mine wants to get a British plate printed here in the UK and then possibly use it in America on his car. Now I don't know a thing about plates, so how would this work?

Even if he does not use it in America, how easy is it to get a plate printed here - does it need to be registered or something first?

Plenty of places online that will print a plate for you without needing any documentation. Doing it in person should require the vehicles V5 along with ID and stuff.

As for using it in America, surely the plate wouldn't be legal?

EU Plates aren't legal in the US, so he's wasting his money

German and Chezch plates are not legal here doesn't stop half the BMW and Skoda owners giving it a go..
