custom pc compatibility check

yes, i should do, although the 4790k is a z97 chip and the motherboard is z87. they should still work however, id either choose a z97 motherboard OR choose a z87 chip just in case, im not sure if its necessary or not, but it would put my mind at ease more.

I didnt think it would have made any difference as to what chipset in it is but my main reason for cholsing the maximus vi is the latest extreme mobo at the min is it not? Seems to have all current features and stuff, i heard about intel 5th gen x99 boards coming out soon when will asus release their x99 extreme mobos?

The thing is a Z87 board probably will not work with a 4790k out of the box. It will need a bios flash. A Z97 board should work out of the box. Why spend £300 on a board for Haswell though? A £100 board will clock it just as well as the cpu is the limiting factor. If you are looking at spending that much you should be going for Haswell E when it launches.

The maxius 6 is LGA1150, with a bios flash is the i7 4970K, without a bios flash i7 4770K. The Z87 boards fo not accept LGA2011 cpu's.
