Custom PC vs PC Format - Which do you prefer and why?

Just looked on the cover of the latest PC Format and noticed the price has gone up from £4.99 to £5.99, thats over a 20% increase :eek:

.
They kept that quiet.
No wonder people are turning away from magazines.

Has the price of the other mags gone up?

I used to get PC format for free from a printers I used to deliver to (stopped going there now) but I wouldn't buy it for the cover price, I buy an older copy off the local market. I do buy Custom PC from time to time.

I dont read any of them, I did read PC Format a long time ago (I remember writing into to that Louis guy that DirectX was the spawn of the devil because it crashed my PC when I installed it on Windows 95, he ridiculed me

I thinks e'ry mags out there for a reason and very hard work from the ppl write them, I respect their work. I'm n00b here so I buy CustomPC.

PC Format is usally 50% advertising and about 10% useful info. Custom PC all the way!

I buy Custom PC. And I only ever buy it going to or from work every few weeks, its a decent bit of reading on the flight upto Aberdeen and then on decent toilet reading

I'd only buy CustomPC out of the mentioned, I find PC Format to be a load of tosh, far far worse than it was in the old days.
I pretty much avoid magazines now though, you can usually find better articles on the major hardware sites. Game reviews and other news, easy to find elsewhere.

I think PC mags have had their day. They should drop the DVD's as most of the software can be downloaded for free anyway, and then reduce the price.

Also, mags like PC Pro should stop reviewing things like projectors, cameras etc.

PC Pro is awful tbh and its HUGE. They could condense the mag into around 1/6th of its size after removing all the nonsense no one reads and as you say all the silly reviews on projectors etc.

I took out the trial subscription to custom PC, but am cancelling it. This months issue is about 40 pages worth of case reviews, and they actually used a thermal camera on them to see which disperses the most heat. I'm not paying to read that carp!

Until recently i subscribed to Custom PC and have always found it a good read. It always encouraged me to read up on aspects of PC hardware I wasn't clued up on (I 90% game on my pc)

I bought Pc Format for the first time in years the other day and was amazed at how light weight it was. The 'reviews' were little more than a summary. very poor.
