anyone know much about things like this (ebay link)

its a large alloy rad for a car im working on at the moment. a replacement rad will cost in the region of £800.

anyone got any comments on the quality and the heat capacity of the ebay item?

Have you tried AH Fabrications or someone like pro alloy or radtech to see how much they'd do one for? Proven to be superb fabricators and I can't see a rad running to £800!!

£800? What car is it!

I guess the first thing i'd be looking for is the difference in size...

60mm 750mm 500mm for the original

the alloy one is only a tiny bit smaller. it seems ideal tbh.

the original includes an oil cooler that has failed so ill be sorting out a remote one.

thanks for the suggestions chez. ill be contacting them tomorrow.

as for the car, its a porsche 928

I need a new rad for the Manta, the cooling fins are mostly gone and the actual rad itself is beginning to leak when hot (a pinhole, but it's enough)

Might consider something like this assuming I can get one with the right fittings.

i just wanted to know if anyone knew how efficient these things were, its gonna have a big responsibility when i get hold of it

You would think :p

Looks alright but i'd be worried about it being too big and the waterpump not being man enough to get a good flow of water meaning it actually performs worse than a smaller rad?

its actually a shade smaller than the OE rad.

another plus is that it wont have an "oil cooler" dumping further heat into the water.

i now need a separate oil cooler though. anyone know much about specing one? ive read a few places that 8 rows is sufficient for 150bhp etc

i saw a tractor one go through ebay lastnight, uber cheap and it was BIG. the OE oil pump already has a thermostat so im not worried about over cooling the oil

Well yes, but surely if it's the right size then cooling is going to be fine, just as Firestar said, pump is important.

not strictly true. im into golf things and know people who have had replacement rads only to find then far less efficient than the old worn VW item.

there are different designs they have so i wanted to know how an all alloy rad would be efficiency wise.

Fair enough. I just assumed they are all the same bar shape/size.. :p

the number of cores makes a difference, the size of the cores

incidently, ive contacted a couple people who have bought the universal ones and theyve been very happy with the finish so it looks like its GO GO GO

Too cheap, it will use a cheap low quality core and have poor cooling properties - hate to tell you but to get a decent replacement you are looking at a good deal more than £89, i'd suggest talking to a proper aluminium fabrication company who make these things out of good quality componants, to your spec if required.

My money goes to people like Andy at Allisport - superb work using top quality kit.

You tried the opel manta owners club mate?
Always a shed load of spares going on there due to the dreaded tin worm.
