Custom Refresh Rates

I am talking here about a 120Hz custom refresh rate for an Alienware AW3423DWF.

What I am unclear about, is if a monitor has various refresh rates, how is it even possible to have a custom rate? I would have thought you have to stick to what the monitor can do and that's the end of it?

Anyway, it seems that people have been defining their own custom refresh rate for this monitor. Is that something I can use the NVIDIA Control Panel for?

Seems pretty complex and I think I will avoid it. LOL. Reading up on it, I don't think it is necessary anyway.

you can create custom refresh rates easy enough in the NVIDIA control panel if you have an NVIDIA card that is.

Personally only use custom resolutions and then use RTSS to lock the frame rate to whatever I want.
