Custom Silverstone DS380B NAS - Spec me please.

I am looking at building a custom nas which I want to get quite a lot of use out of. The easy option would be a synology but if my idea if its realistic and cost effective then I would rather go down the custom route.

Silverstone DS380B with something like the Asrock C2750 is an idea but I am looking for an alternative board to save on the cost.

The idea is I would run ESXI with FreeNAS serving my media/backup needs and probably running Plex and then with the available resources I would like a couple of VMs to run different operating systems for work/play. I have a rough idea of the main parts for the build but would like some help choosing the board and then raid/network card/s since this will be a NAS/Host.

Silverstone DS380B Case
ST45SF-G 450W 80+ Gold SFX PSU
ASRock C2750D4I - OctaCore
16/32GB ECC Memory
3TB WD RED Drives
Raid Card**??
Network Card**??
SSD Cache/OS ??

The above is the general idea I have, the drives I will only have the funds for maybe 2/3 but not sure what the best choice is there; 4 x 2TB drives now or 2 x 4TB now. Raid card and network card I don't have a clue about, likewise do I just use a decent SSD on ESXI for my VMs or use it for a cache and have the full raid in ESXI.

This would be a lot easier for me if something has something similar already up and running :D

No one built anything like this or used the C2750?

I have looked at other cheaper ITX boards but no sure how they will perform.

If anyone can suggest an i3 comob that would suit my needs and a raid card if necessary that would be great.

Anyone?

I am definitely going for the custom build now but I need help choosing the board/cpu.

I think I can get a lot better for the money instead of the C2750.

Thanks

Bought a WD DS6100 so does everything I need except Hyper-V isn't supoorted on 2012 R2 essentials but will look at VMware workstation or similar as an alternative

Ha! They are quite powerful little machines but QNAP and Synology are hardly cheap so seemed like a good choice given the extras I get like a proper CPU and enterprise drives

i would have got 1 with a custom build but this WD has doesn't have a raid card which for the price you would expect it to have a decent one.
