customer disabled usb ports

back his profile up and reinstalled windows 10.
as soon as it loads the usb drivers the mouse cursor moves on its own all the way to the left of the screen.

this is what made the customer disable the usb ports in an attempt to fix the issue.

safe to say the fault lies on the motherboard.

^^^ good shout ... simple usb linux boot to a gui and see what happens.

does the machine have a trackpad / trackpointer device ( like a laptop keyboard might have )

Some drivers for trackpoints have what i would call anti-lean adjustments built into them. I.e., if you begin gently leaning on the trackpoint constantly in the same direction, it thinks that its a error or unintended input, and so will counter adjust the movement so that the cursor remains still on the screen ... which when you stop leaning on the trackpoint will make the mouse cursor drift in opposite direction from the lean for a bit.

USB is not working how can he boot to linux?

USB is not working how can he boot to linux?

Because he used the phrase went it loads the drivers

And that he has used a recovery cd to attempt to reinstall, which you wouldn't get through menu choices without being able to input a menu choice via keyboard or mouse .... Implying that at a fundamental level the usb is working

So a totally different os may work. Even through the usb key.

Where was it disabled?

Reset CMOS if it was done in the BIOS and you can't get back in.

Never heard of someone doing this :o
