Customizing Windows 7 Themes

Hi,

What programs do you lot use to get those really customized Windows themes?

Is Rain metre the best?

Also, will doing this affect my PCs performance?

I used to use rainmeter a lot, I spent hours customising it, writing themes. I thought it was great, then a few months later I realised I rarely ever looked at my desktop. I found it too hard to break the habit of googling the news/weather or anything else to actually find the use in rainmeter.

At the moment all I use is a slightly modified windows visual theme to change the vanilla start button, make windows square and remove the gradient on windows aero.
