Hi

Wonder what you guys think of this.

I got an Opteron from the States on 01/02/2006 and didnt get charged any VAT or import duty at the time.

Today 07/09/2006 I got an invoice from DHL for 40.92 !!! for customs charges in relation to the Opteron I got over 6 months ago.

Can they do this after such a long period of time? I am not arguing the fact that I might have owed this money, but surely it should have been at the time - IE I pay the DHL driver, not a sneaky invoice over 6 months down the line.

That's pretty normal. I've had the same thing when getting parts for my car, twice now I've had an invoice come through 6-months or so later.

I`m not to sure about being charged six months later as i`m sure you should have paid the driver at the time of delivery, looks like a DHL mess up to me.
I was charged £35 for an intel mobo and a chip which i paid for at the door.

No, it isn't. Like I said, it's quite common to be invoiced later.

Yup, UPS are the only "courier" I know who charge on delivery, DHL charge anything from a week to a few months later as they setup an account for the recipient and collect payment later (as do fed-ex i think), RM/PF ask for payment before.

If the bill includes a handling charge of more than a couple of pounds query it if you had it delivered to home (they charge a tenner for businesses and a couple of pounds for residental deliveries).

In previous years I've had DHL and Parcelforce deliver international packages to my door. DHL always seemed to follow up later on charging C&E whilst ParcelForce would effectively hold my parcel ransom at the nearest depot until I paid the charges with a debit/credit card.

I've read on other forums where ParcelForce would sometimes would also ask you for the C&E charges at your doorstep as well so it does vary.

I don't think PF do anymore, at least not in my area due to the risks involved for the driver (if someone things they are carrying cash...)

Posting cheque tomorrow. It was the period of time I was concerned about; seemed a bit too long.

Slightly OT - 500000 points in FAH baby!!!!!! :D

Whenever I've had something delivered through Parcel Force they've always taken payment on delivery. Haven't heard of companies claiming 6 months later, it seems a bit silly really - what if you've moved since then? Personally, I'd ignore it and see what happens.
