Customs Fee To Pay From.....Germany?

We are no longer in the EU. Anything bought from Europe, including Amazon de, would I presume now be subject to duty and the insidious PO/courier handling fee, in the same way as anything with a value over £15 ordered from the USA, Australia etc.

I have a German penfriend and we send each other 3 parcels a year - Easter, birthday and Christmas. We did Easter just now and neither of us were stung for customs. We both easily put at least £30 worth of gifts inside. What happens after December 2020 I don't know.

I was thinking that maybe they have put the (actual) value of the item down on the documentation/parcel in US Dollars and that's where the confusion lies.

Not the case.

OP did you ever figure out who the sender was? The exact thing has happened to me - from the same sender POSTFACH 2265 from Germany. Although with a different customs rate.

Is there a chance that the product is manufactured in china and held in Europe as a distribution center? If so, once the goods arrive into Germany it'll be cleared into a bond so the german importer wont pay the duty on the whole value of the product. It May then then be exported accordingly throughout Europe. The duty will then be paid on the final destination.

either that or RM are just being *********.

This happens more than you would think

We have had this issue at work and it may apply. Although it is a warranty replacement unless it states this on the paperwork then they will just see it as a new item. We have had this on laptops and parts that have been sent back to US/China/Taiwan etc. You might have to provide them paperwork from the company that sent it out as a warranty replacement or if(Obviously not in this case) its a more expensive item and you have had to send the item back you will have to provide them paperwork showing the exact product has been sent out as an RMA and this is the replacement.

Amazon estimates the customs fees and you pay them up front if its dispatched by amazon anyway.

once had a partial refund because their estimate were too high. seemed pretty cool since most other companies would probably just have kept it

this was ordering something from France or Germany to Switzerland, but I guess it will be the same for the UK when we finally leave

So i have a Glorious Model o- gaming mouse in which for many owners, the cable stopped working. I contacted the manufacturer who gave me a discount code to receive a new cable for free! $0.00 paid on their website (American company/website).

From everything I've seen Glorious operate and dispatch their European business from Germany.

Today i received a fee to pay card from RM regarding withheld goods in customs with the following info online:

Sender name POSTFACH 2265 .
Sender country Germany
Charge details
Import VAT £3.74
Handling fee £8.00

As per the EU commission website the United Kingdom is still part of the customs union and does not have to pay import taxes on items coming from within the EU at least during the Brexit crossover period.

Im pretty astonished i have to pay £12 on an item i received for free dispatched within the EU. I can get RM to waiver this fee.......right?

I got stung £19 for two of them. One blue one and one purple. They took basically a month to get here, so long I actually forgot I bought them. Then I have to pay £19 to get them delivered. Poor form from somebody here be that royal mail or glorious for their cheap ass shipping. I didn't even look at the rules :( paid my money, got my goods and will consider a different mouse for myself and my wife next time.

No, in general - goods travelling via bonded warehouses still having duty to pay despite appearing to have come from an EU destination.

But that's because the duty wasn't paid on arrival into Germany. I'm not sure exactly how it works with these kind of goods. But freight wise it would move under a T1 and duty is paid at the port of entry, i.e Dover.

Yes I know. I'm agreeing with you

You asked if it was possible that it had only come via Germany on a T1 and in to the UK with duty still unpaid.
I said that this sort of thing happens more than people realise, so you could well be right.

I understand that it's possible duty wasn't paid in Germany. I know what a T1 is, I worked in international logistics for 14 years :D, I'm agreeing not contradicting or asking for clarification :p

Sorry, I was rather tired last night,I clearly didn't read your reply properly.

It's not everyday you speak to someone else who works in international logistics. What did you do?

I argued the toss but had to pay either way
jots or royal mail whos the other one that has even more ridiulcous fees was it DHL?

I don't get how a handling fee in legal in this circumstances. U can literally pay £8 for what? clearing a form? is this form automated by computer or is an actual guy going to some little shed with his money to pay the fee? cos its a rip off either way.

it doesnt need to be pre payed with a stupid fee by royal mail its borderline gangster tactics like racketeering

My daughter had some k-pop albums pre-ordered before everything shutdown globally and pretty much forgot about them for a bit.

They shipped out but ended up sat and the airport before getting returned. The company offered to send them via DHL at a discount (cheaper than the EMS tracked option), so she paid the extra £8 ish.

Had an email from DHL yesterday with the tracking info and a request to prepay £10.82 tax/duty and £11 handling. That was on top of the £48 original purchase price for two album sets. Shocking that the handling fee can be as much as the duty charge.

Frustrating too, as she has never been charged for anything via regular slow shipping, even on similar amounts, when it comes through RM this end.
