excuse the stupid question but whats the best tool to use to cut an exhaust backbox? I need to cut one up a bit for a random project (wont actually be fitting it to a car) but need to know if a dremel will handle it

cheers

I'd go through with an angle grinder with a 1mm cutting disc as it will make a nice neat cut. There are one or two tubes inside that you might struggle to get to (depending on the silencer) as they will probably be deeper in the silencer than the cutting disc can reach.

Another option is if you have access to a bandsaw you could lift the guard high and go right through in one go. Be bloody careful though

think they are called "orbital sander". you can get them solid blades, these can cut through a lot of things.

You mean an angle grinder. Orbital sander will simply make it shiney :)

looks like an angle grinder is the only way for me since i dont have any access to a band saw. all i want to do is cut the backbox in half, and hollow the inside out, then reattach the bit ive cut off but add some kind of hinge so it can be opened and closed, its wierd i know

HM Customs are wise to the old "saw an exhaust in half and add a hinge" trick y'know... :D

.

hahaha, its not a bong or drugs, just gonna use it as a random display piece in my bedroom / storage thing. just think it would look cool and have a spare twin exit backbox sitting around that i can use
