Seems I've put this off for more than long enough now, and the time has come to apply for some placements (at uni, year in industry next year).
Anyway, my 'problem' is that I have never has a job, and seeing as previous employment makes up a pretty sginificant section of a CV, and is unavoidable on pretty much all application forms, it IS a problem. Theres no particular reason I have never had a job, I just never needed the money. I'm just concerned that potential employers won't see it like that, and won't even consider me over the other applicants who probably all DO have something to write about previous employment, relavent or not.

So anyway, how do I go about writing a decent CV while cunningly avoiding the subject, without it making me appear like a loser?

Thanks

Thats a really tricky one as I know many employers wouldnt even bother asking someone for an interview if they've never had a job in their life if they were 20years old as you'd have a distinct lack of skills.

TBH you cant really get away from it, you'll just have to list your education and interests.

Surely you have had some sort of job - even in retail?

My first cvs started out with good old Maccy Ds and Claire's Accessories in the Previous Employment section!

You have to start somewhere after all, and even if they aren't related to what you have been studying they provide you with good empathy and communication skills... which you should highlight when writing your cv.

If you never had a job through uni/college - lucky you ;)

What jobs are you applying for? If its in computing then you may have to write a very good personal statement as there are so many people applying for limited placemets that they can be very choosey.

I was in the same situation as you when applying for my placement but being environmental based have someone with commitment and practical skills and loads of tools was more relvent than work experence.

The problem is if you've never worked before you cant really prove this which is where work experience comes in, the reference from your previous employer can prove it.
