As per the title, really. CV boot split today and I'm away from home so don't have access to some tools I would need to do the job properly (36mm socket with breaker bar, ball-joint separator, vice, oetiker clamp pliers, etc etc). Are sticky boots any good, or decidedly pointless?

I think I tried one 15+ years ago on my 205...it was crap. They may have got better?

How bad is the split...you'll likely make it home fine (if a little messy...).

I used one on my old 1996 Impreza WRX, i thought it was really good as long as you follow all the instructions.

It seemed to seal up really well with the supplied glue and was a nice fit around each end, i did re-use the OEM clips as they were better than the cable ties provided.

Lots of people said it was a hack and bodge which i guess it kind of is but i didn't see the point in going to all the faff of pulling the driveshaft when this did the job fine with a lot less tools and hassle.

Home is 240 miles away in a locked down England, I won't be back there any time soon. The split is almost though an entire ring of the boot. I believe it got fouled on something on the local country roads, as there were no cracks and it did not appear perished yesterday when I was in the arches.

I think you're right, Mercenary, 'stickyboot' appears to be a brand name for a split boot. Its good to see some positive experiences, they have a negative presence online (most without having actually used one).

If fitted correctly they can do a decent job. As long as you don't get CV grease mixed in while trying to glue it, it should stick nicely and save a lot of hassle.
