Ok I`m aware of Giant and cannondale offering on CX bikes at the magic £1000 on C2W any others that are comparitve? Would be good if it could take guards as well. Spoke with my LBS and they may do a deal on the Giant TCX SLR1 for a grand in the new year, that is £250 of list price ? Seemed a good deal and may bite the hand at that.

I have the TCX SLR 2 (2014), but after a warranty replacement fork/frame it's pretty much an SLR 1 now (the main difference is the full carbon fork on the SLR 2 which uses 15mm thru axle instead of quick release. It's a good bike, definitely happy with mine. I wouldn't say the SLR 1 was worth £250 more than the SLR 2, but at £1k I'd say the price was right.

I've since spent a small fortune upgrading to hydraulic brakes which made a huge difference to performance, though the cable disks are by no means bad.

Hydraulic brakes are starting to trickle down to bikes around the £1k mark, especially since the release of the 105-level RS505s. I'd be looking out for those if I were you, i.e.:

Pinnacle arkose 4 altho not a cx racer is what I have. Have used it for xc, cx racing, commuting and road riding with slicks. Great spec with 11sp 105 and hydraulic discs with all the mounts you'd ever need.

Interested in this as well, as i've had to can a lot of my commuting over winter as 23mm tyres just don't cut it on a large part of my preferred route. So reckon a cx bike that can take full guards would be a great 3rd bike for winter commuting. If i can get 11sp and hydraulic disc brakes and still come in under the bike to work £1k limit that sounds pretty damn tempting tbh.

Pedal Power in West Calder are doing 35% off 2015 and 2016 Genesis bikes until Thursday...

Probably about normal price then....

Everytime I've been in their its been bloody expensive. In comparison to online, of course which I suppose isn't really fair.

got my full carbon road bike and full SRAM Force grpset on C2W;) Going to go back to where I got that as they are always seem keen on a deal! just waiting now on my voucher showing up in the next fortnight. Oh just one other bike that looked very good, a Merida CX 500, comes in at a grand, very nice spec.

Update went back to my LBS but no deals and the mentioned TCX SLR1 for a grand never materialised so went to another bike shop and picked this up.

Shimano 105 grpset save the cranks and also full Hydrualic brakes, not the lightest bike as is however swap the wheels out and it would lighten up quite a bit.
