Hi Guys,
Cycle 2 Work has finally opened up at BT so I am finally going to get a road bike through the scheme.

They have partnered with one supplier I am afraid - https://bt.cyclesuk.com/browse/21-Mens-Road-Race

I will be using the bike for a pretty short commute, but also for general road biking - hopefully going to move into triathlon shortly once I am done with the Marathon (Sprint / Standard to start)

Happy to spend the full amount for a road bike and helmet from the site - so looking at around 850 - 900 on the bike itself

Any immediate recommendations from that list?
If it is worth spending the full 1000 on the bike - I am happy to pay for helmet separate - I will be buying all the other accessories anyway!

The CAAD8/Synapse frames are generally pretty well regarded, and there's a Trek Madone with 105 there for £900. Important thing is to go along to the shop and actually try them out for yourself, get fitted properly and see what feels best to you. Whyte are pretty popular but they're definitely more commuter oriented, something you may not like if you get seriously into the sport. Everything else on there seems to just have Sora/Tiagra which isn't the end of the world but does make it less great value.

Come to think of it, are disc brakes even permitted in triathlons?

I got a Giant Defy 3 last Sept, 2015 model on C2W at £650

Best decision I've ever actually made, the bike is fantastic, build quality is perfect, had no issues yet at all (touch wood) and I've just passed the 500 mile mark on it and it's still running smoothly, brakes and tyres are waring now but that's not to be helped.

I'd reccommend that if it's on the site (sorry haven't looked as I'm at work).

I wouldn't spend the full amount just go towards the mid or slightly above like I did, dont max it out though, you dont need to. Get some decent lights and clothing and a small toolkit for roadside repairs as that'll be needed sooner or later, I got a couple of inner tubes too.

If you're willing to pay for your helmet separately and also deal with the monkeys at Halfords, then the Boardman Team Carbon might be worth a look. It's only 1p shy of the C2W limit though. I have one and it's fantastic. Great ride with bags of upgrade potential due to the frame. It also has mudguard mounts which will make a big difference once we get back round to winter.

EDIT: Nevermind, just saw you can only use one supplier.

Order has been placed and accepted - just waiting on build and it being sent out now!

Any handy lists for first timers?

What did you end up with?

Basic roadside repair kit won't go a miss, levers. tube, multitool, saddle bag, compact pump, bottle and holder, get some lights if you're going to be on the road too.

CANNONDALE CAAD8 105 2015 - actually received it today so have been setting it up and tinkering with the set up.

So far I have picked up
Helmet
Compact Pump
Saddle Bag
Tub
Levers
Bottle Holder
Pedals + Cleats

Also picked up a Tacx Blue Motion Turbo Trainer on sale at decathlon (£99) but there is a part missing so need to go pick it up tomorrow from the store
