So i've been cycling 8mile circuits twice a week for about 5 or 6 weeks to get back in shape cause i was embarrasingly unfit, anyway i managed today to add on an extra 2 miles and finally make it up the very steep and long hil at the end of my circuit in one try :D which makes me extremely happy to see some visible process.

my new £400 bike is on order, now i have no excuse to burn this flubber, its been building for sometime, its fightback time :D

Cycling is great, especially in this weather but not when a guy in a white van pulls out on you and doesn't even look and you are close enough to bang his van and he still doesn't notice. :(

started cycling to work on dayshift a fortnight ago, just under 5 miles each way, certainly feeling a lot better for it, will have to get some lights and do it on lateshift as well

know the feeling mate, i done me knee ligaments, back and shoulder late last year in a car crash, done hardly any excercise and drinking beer, lots of beer.

i dont normally get excited about excercise, apart from football, but im looking forward to hitting the roads, drivers beware!!!!! :o

Typical - just as the weather picks up, my bike gets nicked! A silver/black 05 Trek 7200 on Continental Ultra Gatorskins with a Specialized carbon seat post and Specialized Body Geometry Sports saddle.

Ah well, I guess thats what insurance is for :(

Man, riding round central London is crazy. I can't believe people do it for a living. TBH the traffic isn't even the worst thing, or even the people walking into the roads without looking, it's the bumpy roads. My ass-cheeks are numb from the vibrations after a couple of hours riding.

Padded cycle shorts and a good saddle (not necessarily squishy) :P

Granted living in Bristol it's supposed to be the nation's first Cycling City - though I haven't really seen the benefit yet... Still lots of lumps and bumps in the road plus evil/ignorant/rubbish drivers and pedestrians getting rather to close to causing one damage.

It's a thrill some days :D Other days you just have to keep zen and not get too worked up about it all. It's worth it for the feeling of strength and freedom!

Seems that everyone is buying bikes with the good weather :)

Regarding the OP, congrats. How long does the 8mile circuit take you? You been doing flat riding?

I usually do 4miles of flat(ish) riding a day, 5 days a week going to work and back. Ive sorted out a new route that I will be riding in the evening which is around 4miles. I will be doing that every other day. Works out I would be doing around 32miles a week without doing a 'proper' ride.

I'm not honestly sure how long it takes i have never timed it but i would guess around 30-45mins, the circuit i do is like 60% flat with 4 big slopes the worst being at the very end.
