Cycle Redunancy Check error

Hi there,

My mate has a lappy with a corrupt version of windows, so I thought ahh thats fine I can reformat for you and backup data in the process...

Trouble is when trying to copy a lot of his folders I receive the following error msg:-

"cannot copy cycle redundancy check"

does this mean his hdd is dying / dead? and the only way to recover those files is by using Recuva? and then buying a new HDD?

Please help

Yes, it means that it couldn't read the data off the disk. Could mean it needs a new drive or you could get a copy of Hirens boot CD and use the hard disk tools on that to see if the hard disk can be revived but it all depends on if the disk has a few bad sectors or if the number of bad sectors is growing ie the disk is on its way out.
