I'm due to start a new job closer to home and also registered for the London to Brighton off road next year. Decided i need a new bike as currently have a HT and FS as mainly an MTB rider.

Probably looking at a budget between £1-2K. Commute will be 17 miles each way of mainly country lanes. Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Get an adventure bike not a cyclocross bike. Something like a Pinnacle Arkose 4, Genesis equivalent, 105 level groupset with hydraulic brakes, but capability to mount racks/mudguards.

Whats the difference?

I've been looking on PinkBike and happy with a second hand bike.

Not really fussed about speed and weight too much. Its going to be lighter and faster than what I've currently got plus the lanes can get muddy and have a load of pot holes.

I would get used to the gearing pretty quickly although I've never ridden a road bike. Couldn't think of anything worse than riding plan old tarmac. Most of the roadies I pass look miserable :D
