Out of curiosity, amidst what's unfolding in the Middle East, would you still go on holiday to Cyprus in late April this year?

Officially there's no restrictions on travel to Cyprus, given this the holiday can't be cancelled without forfeiture of monies paid.

Would you still go to Cyprus?

Dont know,

I am heading to athens (Greece) on Sunday this week, until next friday for work, although generally its airport > metro train > get off at a certain station and im near the hotel and the office.

athens/ greece isnt really effected but does have some minor warnings for recent events and a general notification to keep your wits about you, for terrorism and protests etc, there was some violent protests there a few years ago generally at the end of feb which resulted in people throwing petrol bombs etc . unpeaceful stuff,
athens maybe used a hub airport for some unwanted travellers.

Cyprus and some of the other countries (dubai, turkey) etc and the middle east i would not at the moment. Cyprus is used by british (RAF base?) which was attacked for instance. they is military presence there

my colleague was supposed to be going to sydney for 2 weeks for work , however he has had to cancel the trip as the hub airport he was flying through on the way to sydney was struck by a missile (Dubai? was it)

I wouldn't go cancelling anything right now, as things will likely calm down between now and then.

Nothing livens up a holiday quite like a Shahed drone.

Put it this way, your more likely to get killed driving to work on UK roads than getting blown up in Cyprus.

The big risk is getting trapped there with no flights I would imagine.

I would not cancel. Reasons:
- chance of getting bombed low unless going to bases
- conflict likely over before then anyway
- if it becomes necessary to cancel your cancellation terms may improve by cancelling later

We are probably past the peak threat, probably, but still in an unknown phase currently. Israel bombed the **** out of Hezbollah when they started throwing drones and missiles around which were the closest threat to Cyprus, as things stand it looks like Iran's capabilities have been eroded to the point sending stuff at Cyprus would be way down the list of priorities but you never know when it comes to things like possible terrorist attacks carried out by individuals / small cells.

Flight cancellation with evolving events in the region is probably a more potentially problematic thing.

EDIT: Oh and don't use whatever airline my sister uses when flying to Cyprus - every single time she has gone out there in the last 10-15 years the airline has gone bust between flying out and coming home!

Just pack some basic body armour, as long as your not right under the blast you'll be fine, a few scars from shrapnel will make you much more manly anyway.

i'd no be cancelling just yet - if things escalate you may well be able to cancel without financial penalty.......if things improve, go enjoy your holiday but avoid public gatherings and sketchy looking beardy dudes/dudettes.

I wouldn't cancel just yet, but then I wouldn't book a holiday without being able to get my money back either...

I went to North Cyprus last autumn and had a great time.

I'm possibly going to Turkey this autumn with a couple of pals but nothing been booked yet. No idea if it's still going to be on the cards or not. :(

The whole middle east could go sideways. You also have the issue of there now being so much Russian money (influence) in Cyprus, that it could get weird from that angle as well.

p.s. I lived in Cyprus until I was 3, and my sister is a British Colonial having being born there. I don't know what it is like these days, but the clear blue see, golden sands, and the snowy mountains were all amazing. Definitely some core memories from that time :) I would love to go back at some point.
