Just tried D&D online with 10 day free and what a load of crap, the control system and targeting and ui are bad but third person for a online game like that what were they thinking if this was a single player game then maybe but mmo.
Didn't it make them wonder why almost all lastest mmo in the last few years are first person eq had better controls years ago when zoomed in you cannot see the middle part of the screen at all as you torse and head the great big symbol above it in the way so to open a door or do anything you need to zoom out.
I found just moving about was ok but trying to do much else as a pain and i would think in a group it woud be worst as you need a lot of control to do anything really.
If you can do first person then i think it would be a lot better but couldn't see it in controls, it is ok to try something different but if it don't work aswell as what you wanting to replace then why replace it.
The way the third person view works feels like it was done for a console with a pad.
MMo you spend hours and hours playing them you don't want to fight the control system all the time yes i could get use to it but to be truthful why bother.
If it got first person veiw i cannot find it and i would think most of the problems wouldn't be so bad if it had it.
Q

no was maybe to short you said most are 3rd but there is 5 or 6 maybe more that are first person and some have both.
i played doca and wow and asheron call 1 cannot remember lineage
if that is 1st or 3rd person
but also play eq 1 and 2 guildwars and anarchy and vanguard and eve ,if you want to call that first person so no i wouldn't say almost all are 3 rd person.
if the 3rd person done well like wow i got no gripe but when it not it sucks
and 1st person like eq

Really having a hard time understanding what you're going on about?

Edit: WoW, EQ1 and 2, Guildwars, Eve (not sure about the others, never played) are all 3rd person. So yes, I would say almost all are 3rd person.

you could always just buy a mmo with a button that skips between 1st + 3rd person?
maybe before hand you should put a bit more time into your posts, as im not quite sure im even reading them right, and from the looks of what others are sayin, im not the only 1.

You cant remember which lineage you played? Ill put money on you not spending v much time on it then, maybes download it off a naughty site and hit a private server, decide you didnt like and quit? I cant really see how you say WoW implements 3rd person well and a lot of others dont, its all practically the exact same..

Wouldnt first person for GROUP moments in MMOs be a lot harder? You'd have big parts of the screen hidden from the UI, and you would have a very restricted LoS. With conventional third person you can generally see all combat that you are involved in, since most battles are fought closeby with enemys..
Maybe you should just play the game a bit more, sometimes it takes a while to get used to the camera, just a suggestion incase you havnt put much time into it..

You want awful 3rd person camera example, buy NWN2 and dont patch it, now thats AWFUL 3rd person

Hmm not sure what game you were playing OP but the camera is fine for DnD can zoom out pretty far or so close that its almost 1st person, ive played it on and off since the beta, usally re subscribe when the big modules come out as it gets boring after you have toons at max lvl. I usually have the camera at its default range but slightly higher up, but i suppose it depends on what game you are comming from as i tried WoW after DnD and didnt like it at all.

I would be happy if D&D did that and yes i am guilty of that need to read what i write more,

Why i say wow, it is the last 3rd person mmo i played apart from D&D and i found it easy to get into coming from 1st person game and to me it seams more polished than most.
Some of those games i only played for a short time to see if i liked them because at the time in was into everqueat quite deeply so i cannot remeber them that well, i would play them for a few days on and off and go back to everquest and all paided for.

In eq you had raids with 40+ people and i wasn't anywhere at the end game raids, the view was good just like fps quake all you doing see where you facing.
I didn't play D&D much to be honest and the camera angle doesn't help, it seemed to me that you adjusting it a lot and it does remind me of single player rpg and not a muti player game.

I never played that on-line so only single player and i can forgive it so for that, as i am not putting a lot of time into it like a mmo.

It is more likey to do with me coming from everquest and playing a few fps and wow layout was like eq in a way.
Eq had both 1st and 3rd and at times you needed 3rd but that was very rare unless you in a raid and had mobs all around you and had to do crowd control.

Just to make sure you're not confusing this at all...
