Can't find any guide over the internet on how to do this.

I want to download the 3 month windows 8.1 onto a USB, so when my new system is complete I can download it onto that.

Would anyone be able to take me through this by a step by step guide that's almost idiot proof?

It will be my first time doing this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should use a standard version of Win 8.1 if you're going to purchase it at a later date.

1) Grab the x64 ISO from https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B3c2hcaO4GgWbXB4Q0g5YkhHUVE&usp=sharing
2) Use http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool to create a bootable flash drive
3) Follow this guide from step 3: http://gearnuke.com/clean-install-windows-8-18/

When it prompts for a key, use 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT - this product key is for the core version, I doubt you'll need pro. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...technologies/windows-8-1/compare/default.aspx

i tried a usb install, and ran into issues.

as far as i can work out, windows 7 usb boot tool didnt make the usb device read only, so installation kept trying to dump onto the stick first and gave a failed to install error (couldn't see / make partition on my ssd or hdd)

in the end i had to borrow a dvd drive.
