D-Link DSL-G604T - will not respond to anything

D-Link DSL-G604T. Has been working flawlessly for a year.

On it's one year anniversary - exactly to the day - the router seems to of totally failed. It now refuses to allocate DHCP IP Addresses. Refuses to go online. And worst of all - totally refuses any access to the config pages.
  • I have tested this with three different PCs.
  • I have tested with different Ethernet cables.
  • I have tried using static IP Addresses.
  • The router doesn't return a ping, so the config pages can't be reached.
  • The WiFi network is not not coming on and not visible.
  • Lights on status panel show all is working fine - WLAN, ADSL, LAN.
  • When I connect a PC, the PC acknowledges the cable is plugged in, the LAN light comes on on the router, and the PC starts trying to get an address. And then gives up...
  • Have completed "factory resets" (again with correct light response).
It seems as if it is "stuck" during bootup. OR gone into such a secure mode that it won't let anything connect to it.

I was hoping to update firmware - but no access to the device.

What makes this _really_ bizzarre is I did manage to bring this box back to life for a short time. This was when I swapped it to a different mains socket and different phone socket. During this time I managed to login to the control panel, reset all the values (which had dropped back to default - this was before I had hit the reset button). Once everything was configured. Saved back to Flash and copied the data to the hard disk. Powered off and back on - still working.

So returned it to the room we usually have it in... only to find it has keeled over again!! No response.

Anyone else seen a D-Link router just "give up" like this? Any thoughts? Or should I just start look into the RMA procedure... (who wants to bet that there is only a single year warrenty on this... LOL)

Thanks in advance :)

Hi

You have tried everything but just incase before doing RMA (Dlink is 2 year warranty I believe) when you tried other cables and PC's did you also try other ethernet ports on the router and not the same port all the time ?

Thanks Homer - yeah, every hole available. With lots of different cables. Tried all I could. Even ripped the lid off to look for internal damage.

This is a puzzle... which now means support phone calls and RMAs tommorow I think. :)

mine has done that.. its a crap router mate.. i have slowly gone from 1 port to another... i wont use d-link again.. ohh and the arial at the back is falling off too...

Myh aerial had also worked loose - so I screwed it back tight when I had the lid off. The nut on the back of yours is probally loose.

I think we are clearly into RMA league now. Thanks guys

Well, a phone call to the support guys didn't even get past the questions. I told 'em I was an IT Engineer (to avoid the silly scripts). And then described the "lights are on, but no body is home".

They then sent out an email with RMA details. Fairly easy and straight forward. :D
