D0 i7 temps seem high??

Hello,

I just got a 920 D0 i7 today and have been playing around with it and to me my temps seem a bit high.

I have a 940 i7 that would needs about 1.325 v to be 24/7 prime95 stable at 3.85ghz and the temps are around 74c under load when i was priming.

This new i7 can do 4.0ghz at 1.2v and I am testing it for prime stable now but the temps are around 75c.

Surely using less volts should bring my temps down and not keep them the same or more than before??

I am using a TRUE with push/pull set up with 2 s-flex 1600 fans on it.
What temps are you guys getting with yours?

I don't have an i7 system, but there is reference to this over at xs. The main opinions are either badly calibrated temperature sensor or greater current draw of the D0 stepping. The former would be nicer, the latter is supported by D0 drawing about 20W more (at the wall) than the original stepping when under load.

Less volts doesn't mean lower temps. Less power dissipated does, and power is voltage times current. D0 draws more current.
What this means for i7 overclocking seems to still be uncertain, but at least you can be reassured that your chip is behaving normally

So you are the one who brought the 940 :D

Seriously though, those temps are fine, if not a little too good :/
