Okay, so i got my D0 step i7 920, p6t, corsair ddr3 1600, and corsair tx850... (thanks for recommending)

First job was to clock her straight to 4 ghz, this was a breeze.

Now I am calling on your expertise (as i am a newbie to i7), to get her to 4.5 GHZ

4GHz speed wow that's great! I'll be interested to see how far you can take it, I'm thinking of buying a custom built PC with the same CPU and motherboard as yours.

good clock but dosnt mean much after 5 mins of prime, i can show you 4.2Ghz on my chip with 5 mins prime :), im looking at getting one of these soon, but want to see some 4Ghz+ full testing results first.

these chips do 4ghz straight out the box with minimal votage changes.

turn on turbo and you get 4.2ghz. I posted into windows on stock cooler @ 1.28v.
ran prime @ 1.296v and worker 5 failed after 4 hours. Will up the V one notch.

not gone for any higher yet.

Aren't those temps of 79, 79, 72, 76 a bit high, or is that normal for these Nehalem chips (I'm still running Q6600) ?

I would normally expect to keep them below 70.

I've got mine to 4GHz but when I started running Prime the temps were ridiculously high...reaching 100 at one point so I stopped after 5min...also whats this turbo I hear you lot talking about? where do I turn this on and how can I get my multiplier to go up from 20 cos it dont seem to want to budge any higher than 20? Also please check out my other post in General Hardware where I hit a stumbling block with my RAM.

Thanks all :)

Turn HT on, otherwise you may as well have got a q6600.

For reference, my d0 does 4.2GHz @ 1.28v with hyperthreding on - prime stable on water

Should be a breeze aiming for these settings with most d0 chips.
Some of the ones I have seen at work are doing 3.4 / 3.6 on stupidly low volts

So i7 D0 is the chip of the moment, just need to wait for the next batch to see if they continue the trend
